Who may enter?
Contests are open to writers from anywhere in the world.

Short description
The competition is organized by the Boston Review, an American political and literary magazine.

There are two contests:
• Annual Poetry Contest
• Aura Estrada Short Story Contest

All entries must be related to this year’s theme of Speculation.

You may submit:
•  up to 5 poems or 10 pages, whichever comes first;
•  a short story of no longer than 5,000 words.

Poems and stories must be unpublished.
All entries must be in English.

Entry fees
There is an entry fee of US$20 for writers from the United States, Canada, and Western Europe.
Contestants outside U.S., Canada, Western Europe, and those experiencing hardship may enter free of charge.

Prizes
• Annual Poetry Contest
The winning author will receive $1,000 and have their work published in Boston Review’s special literary issue Speculation (February 2023).
• Aura Estrada Short Story Contest
The winning author will receive $1,000 and have their work published in Boston Review’s special literary issue Speculation (February 2023).
