Open to all un-agented writers over the age of 18.
Details
The First Pages Prize supports emerging writers in an annual prize for the first FIVE pages of a longer work of fiction or creative non-fiction. Judging criteria are writing craft, a sense of a bigger story emerging, and how hooked reviewers are by your pages.
Entries must be the first 5 pages (maximum 1,250 words) and submitted online via Submittable. See the First Pages Prize website for links to enter.
This year the Prize will be judged by director of the esteemed Iowa Writers’ Workshop, Lan Samantha Chang.
Entry fee
Each entry must be accompanied by an entry fee of US$20 or US$35 extended deadline fee. A limited number of sponsored entries are available to apply for before January 10.
Prizes
• The winner will receive US$2,000 + developmental edit + agent consultation
• Four runner-ups receive the following: 2nd US$1,250 / 3rd US$750 / 4th and 5th US$500 + developmental edit + agent consultation.
